Lent 2016

Lent 2016

Prayer is our lifeline with God and during Lent, we will be exploring the part that prayer plays in healing and wholeness. We will be thinking about setting up prayer ministry during future Sunday morning Communion services and perhaps we will be able to develop St. Mary’s healing ministry more broadly.

Some reassurance ... exploring prayer can seem daunting as it is personal, and also people can feel very worried about praying out loud. Please be assured that no-one will be made to feel uncomfortable in any way. This programme will not be exploring personal prayer styles, so please don't let those sorts of worries put you off.

Lent course

A weekly Lent course for small groups will look at what we mean by 'healing', coping with failing health, understanding death and resurrection, ways of praying, and will end with a look at the potential for our church to be a place of healing.

Three groups will be running for five weeks:

When? Where? Time? Contact
Tuesday evening
Starting 16th Feb
Rachel's home 8pm Rachel
(07740 368 225)
Wednesday evening
Starting 17th Feb
Peter and Frances' home 7.45pm Peter and Frances
(020 8464 4086)
Friday afternoon
Starting 19th Feb
Front Room, Church House 2.15pm Ruth
(020 8289 1892 or email)

Feel free to swop around if you can't make the same group each week. There's more information about the course here or please contact Ruth (020 8289 1892 or email).

If you would like to get together with a couple of other people and go through the course yourselves, that would be wonderful. Please ask Ruth for the content.

Sunday mornings

What we cover in the groups will be supported by the preaching in church during Lent. There won't be exact repetition of the Lent course session content - the sermons will explore different ways of looking at the week's theme.

Midweek Communion

Every Wednesday during Lent a more reflective Communion service will be held at 11.30am, and we will try different styles of prayer each week.

We hope that the programme as a whole will be exciting and rewarding, and that St. Mary’s prayer life will grow stronger as, with God’s help, we shape ourselves to be a place of healing for the wider community.

For more information don't hesitate to contact Ruth or Rachel.
